China and the United States hold economic and trade talks in Spain

On the afternoon of September 14 local time, China and the United States began talks in Madrid, Spain, where both sides will discuss U.S. unilateral tariff measures, abuse of export controls, and TikTok, and other economic and trade issues.

In the past few months, under the important consensus of the heads of state of China and the U.S., the economic and trade teams of both sides have held three rounds of talks in Geneva, London, and Stockholm, reaching positive consensus and playing an active role in stabilizing bilateral economic and trade relations.

A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated on the 12th that China urges the U.S. to meet China halfway, and on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation, resolve respective concerns through dialogue, find solutions, provide an open, fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies including TikTok to continue operating in the U.S., and promote stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations.

China-U.S. economic and trade relations are significant not only to the two countries but also have an important impact on global economic stability and development. The international community welcomes the phased progress of China-U.S. consultations and looks forward to both sides continuing on the path of dialogue and negotiation, injecting positive energy into maintaining the international economic and trade order.

Reuters reported that TikTok was not mentioned in the previous China-U.S. economic and trade talks held in Geneva, London, and Stockholm. On June 19, U.S. President Trump delayed the TikTok ban for the third time, extending the grace period for the "ban if not sold" law by another 90 days until September 17. The report quoted sources saying this deadline will be extended a fourth time. Trump opened a TikTok account in August. Commentators believe that the Madrid talks will lay the foundation for the future development of U.S.-China relations.
